1000x Berlin.
The online portal on the city’s history
1000 photographs from the collections of Berlin's district museums and the Stadtmuseum Berlin provide a fascinating insight into the city's history. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Greater Berlin, these pictures tell the story of a metropolis which, in 1920, was merged by parliamentary resolution from towns, rural communities and manor districts. 150 thematic photo series show how the image of Berlin has changed from the Weimar Republic to the present. They reflect the diversity of Berlin's facets from its periphery to its core, from its neighbourhoods to the city centre. 50 illustrated biographies of Berlin people illustrate the social, cultural and political upheavals experienced by inhabitants of the East and the West. By uploading their own photographs, visitors to the portal can make their personal Berlin visible. Created in close cooperation between the Stadtmuseum Berlin and the Berlin district museums, 1000x Berlin is an illustrated centennial history of the city, compact and digital.
